Terms of Service

Version 2.0 · effective 2026-05-23. Plain-English Terms for the Probily cabinet and the public surfaces it produces. Written to be read; if anything is unclear, email support@probily.tech — we will explain in normal language.

1. The Service

Probily («the Service») is an open-source intelligence platform. The Service provides:

• A cabinet at probily.tech/cabinet for generating, organising and publishing sourced reports.
• A pipeline that resolves people and organisations against public databases (Wikipedia, Wikidata, sanctions registries, courts, scholarship, news archives).
• A global entity archive at probily.tech/e/<qid> that aggregates publicly-sourced facts about resolved entities.
• A captured-source archive that snapshots the article URL behind each report at generation time.

The Service is operated by Probily («the Operator»). Operator contact: support@probily.tech.

2. Acceptance & eligibility

By creating an account or using any part of the Service, you accept these Terms. You must be at least 16 years old. Organisations may use the Service through an individual who represents them; that individual is bound by these Terms personally.

3. Accounts

You may have one account per person. You are responsible for keeping your password secret and for everything done from your account. Account creation requires a working email address; verification may be required for new accounts during the closed-beta period.

The Service uses SuperTokens for authentication; we never see your password in plaintext. We may suspend an account that appears compromised (mass automated requests, credential stuffing patterns) until the owner re-verifies.

4. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to use the Service to:

• Make, or attempt to make, any decision covered by the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) or comparable law. Probily is not a consumer-reporting agency and its reports are not “consumer reports.” You must not use the Service — in whole or in part — for eligibility decisions about employment, tenancy, credit, insurance, or any other FCRA-covered purpose, nor as a background-check or people-screening service.
• Harass, defame, or target any individual in violation of applicable law.
• Compile lists of private individuals (non-public figures, minors, victims) for any purpose; the Service is designed for investigations of public conduct.
• Build a database of individuals for sale or onward redistribution. Reports you generate are for research, journalism, or due diligence; bulk scraping is prohibited.
• Submit a fact to the global archive that you cannot cite to a public, citable source (see §7 below).
• Bypass anti-abuse rate limits (free tier: 1 project, 50 reports/month soft cap; Pro: unlimited reports, fair use).
• Use the Service for legally restricted purposes in your jurisdiction (e.g. credit scoring without consent, mass surveillance, doxxing campaigns).
• Reverse-engineer the pipeline to extract upstream registry API keys.

5. Your content

5.1 Inputs. You retain ownership of the inputs you submit (URLs, names, query strings). By submitting an input you grant the Operator a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process it through the pipeline solely to produce the report you requested.

5.2 Reports. Reports you generate are yours. A report is reachable by anyone who has its link, and is meant to be shared that way. Reports are not listed in a public directory and are excluded from search-engine indexing (disallowed in robots.txt and left out of the sitemap); they are not automatically indexed.

5.3 Projects. Your private workspace, including your notes, manual entities, and manual relations, is private by default. You may choose to publish a project; a published project becomes viewable by anyone with its link.

5.4 Statements from public reports. When a report is public, its structurally-extracted contents — statements attributed to a speaker, the outlet that published it, the author who wrote it — may be included in Probily’s public entity Dossiers, with attribution to the source URL, where the entity qualifies for a public Dossier. 6. Probily content & marks

The structured data of a Probily report (entities, statements, relations) is available under the same licence as its upstream sources: Wikidata/Wikipedia is CC-BY-SA-4.0, OpenAlex is CC0, Wikimedia LiftWing inference is CC0, third- party content retains its source licence. Attribution emitted inline in the report.

«Probily», the Probily logo, and Probily-specific scoring rubrics (the captured-source SHA-256 verification schema, the four-layer entity card render contract) are reserved to the Operator.

7. Community contributions to the global archive

Registered users may suggest corrections or additions to entity cards in the global archive via «Submit correction». Every contribution must carry a citation to a public URL. Contributions go through a moderation queue and surface on entity cards with attribution to the contributor. The full terms are in the Contributor Agreement, which you accept on first submission.

8. Subscriptions, payments & Merchant of Record

Probily is offered on paid monthly subscriptions (Solo, Pro and Team) plus optional one-off report credits. Prices are shown on our pricing page in US dollars; applicable taxes are calculated and collected at checkout.

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com (Paddle.com Market Limited) is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle handles the transaction, invoicing and tax, and provides all payment-related customer-service enquiries and returns. Your purchase is therefore also subject to Paddle’s buyer terms presented at checkout.

• Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled; you may cancel at any time from your account settings, effective at the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds and cancellations are governed by our Refund Policy.
• Per-report paid features (per-statement quick-check, extended exports) charge against a usage-budget balance you top up; balance entries are immutable and itemised.

9. Privacy

See the Privacy Policy for what the Service stores, for how long, and what is shared with whom. It is GDPR-compliant: you have the right to access, correct, port, restrict, and delete your data, and to object to processing.

10. Disclaimer

Probily reports surface open-source signals, not legal verdicts. The reader is responsible for independent verification before acting on any signal. The Service makes no warranty that any specific report or fact is complete, accurate, or fit for any specific use.

11. Limitation of liability

The Service is provided «as is». To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Operator's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Service is limited to the amount you have paid the Operator in the 12 months preceding the claim (which is zero for closed-beta users, since the closed beta is free).

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for: death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer-protection law.

12. Termination

You may close your account at any time from /cabinet/settings or by emailing support@probily.tech. On closure your private content is deleted within 30 days; public content (public reports, contributions to the global archive) remains as historical record. The Operator may suspend or terminate your access to the Service for breach of these Terms, persistent abuse, or use that creates material legal risk for the Operator or third parties.

13. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may change. Material changes will be posted on this page with the new effective date and a changelog at the bottom. We will notify active accounts by email of material changes at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Operator is established, and any dispute will be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms displaces consumer-protection rights you have under your local law (in particular, EU consumers retain rights under EU consumer-protection directives).
