Contributor Agreement

Version 1.0 · effective 2026-05-23. The terms under which you may suggest changes to entity cards in the global archive at probily.tech/e/<qid>. You accept this Agreement on first submission. Plain-English; if anything is unclear, email support@probily.tech.

1. Who may contribute

Any registered Probily user. Contributors do not pay or receive payment. The Service may grant trusted contributors the moderator role at Operator discretion; moderators help review the queue but their submissions follow the same rules as everyone else's.

2. What you may submit

Through the Submit correction action on an entity card you may:

• Add a new fact about the entity that isn't yet in the archive.
• Replace an existing fact with a more accurate value.
• Dispute a fact you believe is wrong (a moderator reviews the basis).
• Retract a previously-approved contribution of yours.

You may NOT submit content that is private (data you don't have lawful authority to publish), targets a private individual (the Service is for investigations of public conduct), or repeats content you have already submitted (the moderation queue will reject duplicates).

3. Citation requirement

Every contribution must carry a citation URL to a public source. The Submit form refuses an empty citation. Accepted citation types:

• News article URLs (any reputable outlet).
• Court filings, government records, regulatory documents.
• Wikipedia / Wikidata entries.
• Academic papers (DOI or open-access URL).
• Paywalled URLs with an accompanying Wayback snapshot that captures the relevant content.

Citations NOT accepted: tweets / social-media posts (signal too noisy), personal blogs unless the blogger is the primary source, Telegram channels, anonymous forums, unfounded rumour aggregators. The moderator may also reject a citation that obviously misrepresents what the source says.

4. License you grant

By submitting a contribution, you grant Probily a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to:

• Display the contribution on entity cards, including the public /e/<qid> pages, with your handle attached for public attribution.
• Index the contribution for search.
• Translate the contribution (if multi-lingual reporting requires it) while preserving meaning.
• Retain a copy in our audit log even after retraction (we keep the historical record of what was on the card, when).

You retain the right to use your contribution elsewhere. Probily does not claim exclusive rights and never sells contributions.

5. Attribution

Approved contributions display as «Suggested by @<your-handle> · approved <date> · cites: <url>» on the entity card. Your public profile (if enabled) lists your contributions with their status. You may not request anonymous attribution — contributions are attributed by design, that is how the community trust mechanism works.

If you delete your account, your contributions remain on the cards with attribution to your last-used handle (the contributions are part of the public historical record; see §9). You may instead request retraction (see §7).

6. Indemnification

You represent and warrant that:

• Each contribution is factually accurate to the best of your knowledge.
• The cited source supports the claim.
• You have not submitted private data you lack authority to publish.
• You have not defamed any individual.

You agree to indemnify Probily against any claim, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from a contribution that breaches these warranties. Probily's moderation does not transfer this responsibility — the contribution carries YOUR attribution; the claim is on YOU.

7. Retraction

You may retract any of your contributions at any time via the «Retract» control on the entity card or by emailing support@probily.tech. Retracted contributions are removed from the live entity card; an audit-log copy is preserved internally (we keep evidence of what was published, when, in case of dispute).

The Operator may also retract a contribution after publication if:

• A reliable challenge proves it inaccurate.
• The cited source is later found to be discredited.
• A legal complaint (defamation, privacy, court order) requires removal.
• It breaches §2 or §3 of this Agreement.

8. Moderation

Every submission enters a moderation queue. Semi-automatic checks (URL HEAD, duplicate detection, spam heuristics) run immediately. A human moderator then decides to approve, reject, or request revision. You receive an email decision with reasoning (especially on reject / revision).

Moderators may reject without lengthy explanation if the contribution obviously breaches §2 or §3. Repeated rejections may result in the contributor's queue access being suspended.

9. Right of reply

The subject of a fact on an entity card (or their lawful representative) may submit a right-of-reply through support@probily.tech. Verified replies are surfaced on the entity card as a sibling thread to the disputed fact. We do not delete the original automatically — the public record is what we publish; the reply is how we let the subject respond.

10. Termination of contributor status

The Operator may revoke your contributor status (preventing future submissions) for repeated breaches of this Agreement, malicious behaviour, or coordinated abuse. Your existing approved contributions remain visible unless individually retracted under §7.

11. Changes to this Agreement

Material changes will be posted with a new effective date and a changelog. We will email contributors at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued submission after a change constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing law

This Agreement is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Operator is established, and any dispute will be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction. EU consumer-protection rights are preserved.
